Social Action and Volunteer Opportunities

- What is Social Action?
  
  Simply put, social action is how we live out our mission to Follow Jesus, Serve Community, and Inspire Others. As Christians, we are each called to put our faith into action—reaching out to those around us with compassion, generosity, and a willingness to help.
  This “action” may look different at different times in our lives, but the response of “Here I am, Lord” should always be alive in us. Whether through volunteering, supporting those in need, or offering our time and talents, social action is one of the ways we bring Christ’s love into our community.

- Christians In Action
  Christians In Action (CIA) is a non-profit organization that has been in existence for over 20 years, serving the less fortunate in the Olmsted Falls and Olmsted Township community. We offer help as our response to Christ’s love for us and His command to serve others. CIA began with one individual’s vision of helping the needy and has grown into an organization that assists over 1,000 families annually. The Christians in Action food pantry is located in the Olmsted Falls City Hall.

  Hunger Hurts Barrel:
  There is an immediate need for chunky soup. Donations of any non-perishable food items are appreciated, as well as cash or check donations payable to Christians in Action. If you are able to contribute, please leave your donations in the barrels at the entrances to our church.

- Mary's Meals
  If you have a family member in or recently released from the hospital, Mary’s Meals can provide a free homemade meal for up to one week. Call the Parish Office to be connected with a member of the Mary’s Meals committee.
- SMOF Street Ministry
  Every Wednesday from 1 p.m.–4 p.m., volunteers from St. Mary of the Falls visit men and women living on the streets in western Cleveland, North Olmsted, Berea, Fairview Park, Rocky River, and Westlake. We bring PB&J sandwiches, drinks, clothing, and assistance for those seeking to get off the streets.
  
  You may volunteer one time or as often as you wish. We also welcome donations of fruit: bananas, clementines, pears, and oranges are especially appreciated.
  
  Additional help is needed once a month on Wednesdays from 12 p.m.–1 p.m. in the Community Room to prepare supplies for the outreach trip. COME VISIT!
- Ozanam Center
  The Saint John Paul II Ozanam Center Food Pantry at Holy Name Parish on Harvard and Broadway in Cleveland serves hundreds of households a month. This assistance provides a 3-day supply of canned and packaged goods, fresh produce, and frozen meat. There are 2 containers for donations in the parking lot entryway.
  
  Monetary donations can be made by simply dropping a check payable to St Mary of the Falls, earmarking it to Ozanam at the Parish Office or the weekly collection.

- Prayer Shawl Ministry
  The Craft Group has lovingly donated its time and talents to create hand-knitted and crocheted Prayer Shawls for those in need.
  
  The Prayer Shawl Ministry has reached out to comfort many people during the painful and difficult times in their lives brought on by illness, hospitalization, or the loss of a loved one. Prayer Shawls offer spiritual strength through the prayer and love that are woven into them by the hands and hearts of the ladies who design them. Prayer Shawls are gifts of faith that have been blessed and cannot be bought. They are given freely in the hope that they will bring God’s love and healing to all who wear them. If you know someone in need of a Prayer Shawl, please let the Craft Group know.
